Poems about Domestic Violence, Physical & Emotional Abuse

Like all poetry, these poems about violence and abuse speak for themselves. Some may identify, others may learn, some may turn away, but what I ask is that you notice what happens to your being as you read. Whether you (or someone you know) are experiencing either physical violence or emotional abuse, know that you are not alone, and all I can wish for is that you remain open to this global sadness and possibly feel inspired to talk about this in communities... out of the silence... is freedom.  Let's join together.

Cards, Candies and Flowers
by HaliJo Webster

Climb the walls of insanity
I need to break free
but...
He loves me - of this I am sure!

After the blood and bruises,
I get cards, candies and flowers.

I'll have a plumber come and fix the sink
he smashed my head on.
He won't have to be reminded how badly I annoyed him.

Next time I will try not to do anything to make him angry.
Though...
He promises never to do it again.
Too much spice in the spaghettii sauce!
I will remember to be careful. I should have known better!
I am trying so hard.

My daugter all of six has been walking funny.
She cries at night and cannot explain why!
He babysits often when I'm at work.
Gee, I just love how he plays and pays attention her her.
He buys her...
cards, candies and flowers.

A Void
by HaliJo Webster

Sullen
anxious
separated from self
where am I?

Not, NOT
I am AM
this I know!

To feel
is to be depressed,
to wonder is irrelevant.
Space,
clarity
where did that go?

Foggy apprehension,
dismal
uncertain
full of woe
trapped
isolated.
Alone does not comfort
What is this?
this dreariness?
Aware
sad
do I wish more
that state of ever wanting
leads to sorrow
suffering.
it is as it should be NOW.
no-one to share with
partner angry
I cannot speak
without fear
the counter act is
large carrying
a shadow of darkness
little man
enormous
wrath
a dungeon
sticky web
trapped in his
venom
welfare
not ample
employment support
an answer
societal cracks
could vanish with
respect, understanding
and opportunity
dismiss prejudices
bias's and labels
free your mind
allow diversity
color and beauty
open your doors
the place I reside
has one side of
dancing color
my vibrance
the other energy
he
pours down rain
bleaching my hue
dim

yet

a
little light shines

that
essence of the dance
for I know
this too shall pass.

He Takes
by HaliJo Webster

He tears my being
in two,
he takes my vagina,
it is dry
with tears that bleed
for an orgasm.

He takes he takes
I breathe
he takes
I am with one the spirit
one with the spiral
he cannot take
my breath strengthens
he takes
oh dear one
the energy of the gift of life
for which we all are connected
for the blind who cannot see
and the deaf who cannot hear
because of drama
he takes...
he thrives in drama
on the caretakers
the healers
yet
he takes
and gets nothing but...

his mirror.
